What
The new Law Practice Program (LPP) is made up of a four-month course focused on practical legal skills combined with four months of co-op work (either paid or unpaid).
Who
Instead of 10 months of articling, law school grads can take the LPP to qualify to become licenced as a lawyer in the province. (yes, you’ll still have to write the bar exams.)
Why
The number of available articling jobs was not keeping up with the number of law school grads. About 15 percent of those who wanted to article were unable to find a position in 2012.
When
Students currently in their final year of law school will act as guinea pigs for this new approach to licencing in Ontario. Good luck, Class of 2014!
