What to wear to sporting events

First rule: no crumpled suits

One of the best parts of being a lawyer is free sports tickets. Legitimately leaving early to hang with clients, beers paid for by the firm — what’s not to love? ‘Tis the season for hockey and football, but don’t let me see you in the stands wearing your crumpled suit and tie.

Ladies

Go for crisp, indigo skinnies with riding boots, cashmere sweater and blazer, with a wool scarf in your cross-body bag in case it gets chilly. Avoid flashy jewellery and logos: think down-to earth advisor, not puck bunny.

Guys

Choose narrow, darkrinse jeans, a casual leather boot or slip-on loafer and a sweater/colourful dress shirt combo. Don that jersey if you’re truly a fan (and others from the firm are wearing them too), but put down the face paint. (And please: don’t pretend to be a fan, lest you be called out for not knowing your team trivia.) Keep it relaxed and comfortable, yet professional. Now you’ll look great as you sit back and enjoy that ice-cold beer and loaded chili dog — just don’t get any on your sweater!
